At ALTIX Consulting, we believe in the power of leadership to drive both personal and professional growth. One of our team members, Jonathon Evans, Director of the ALTIX Academy, brings this philosophy to life through his years of coaching youth soccer. As a coach to his two sons and many other young athletes, Jonathon’s approach goes beyond teaching technical skills—it’s about helping kids grow into resilient, confident individuals both on and off the field.

In this interview, Jonathon shares his experience of mentoring young athletes, emphasizing the core principles of resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking that have shaped the players he’s worked with. He reflects on how these values have influenced his leadership style at ALTIX, where he helps business leaders reach their full potential. Through his journey, Jonathon demonstrates how the lessons learned in coaching can have a lasting impact, inspiring growth and fostering a culture of accountability and development—whether on the soccer field or in the workplace.

Jonathon, you’ve coached youth soccer for many years, including your two sons. How has your approach to coaching helped shape the young athletes you’ve mentored, both on and off the field?

Coaching youth soccer has always been a rewarding experience for me. It’s not just about teaching the technical aspects of the game; it’s about helping these kids grow as individuals. Seeing them face challenges—whether it’s learning a new skill or bouncing back from a loss—and come out stronger is incredibly fulfilling. I try to create an environment where they feel supported enough to take risks and where even the smallest wins are celebrated. Watching them carry those lessons into their lives off the field is what makes it all worth it.

Resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking are key principles in your coaching philosophy. How have you seen these values impact the growth and confidence of the players you’ve worked with?

It’s amazing how these values show up in unexpected ways. I’ve seen kids who were initially shy find their voices as team players, and others learn to approach challenges with a whole new perspective. Watching them adapt—whether it’s to a tough game situation or working with teammates they didn’t know before—is inspiring. These values not only build better players but also more confident, capable individuals. It’s a privilege to play a small part in that growth.

Balancing coaching, family life, and a professional career requires focus and dedication. What drives you to invest so deeply in helping others grow, and how does that passion reflect in your own personal development?

It all comes back to a desire to make a difference, whether it’s for my sons, their teammates, or the leaders I work with. Balancing it all can be challenging, but I’ve found that the energy I give comes back to me tenfold when I see someone take a step forward in their journey. Every experience, whether personal or professional, teaches me something new. It’s this constant cycle of growth—for myself and others—that keeps me motivated.

Throughout your coaching journey, you’ve undoubtedly witnessed transformative moments for the young athletes you mentor. How do those moments inspire you to continue evolving as a leader?

The transformations I’ve seen are often subtle but incredibly powerful—a child realizing they can lead, mastering a skill they once thought impossible, or finding the courage to take on a challenge. These moments remind me that growth doesn’t happen overnight but through consistent effort and support. They inspire me to be patient, to listen, and to create environments where growth is possible, both in sports and in the workplace.

At ALTIX, you’re involved in helping leaders reach their full potential. How do the lessons and values you emphasize on the field influence the way you approach your work with ALTIX customers?

Coaching soccer and working with leaders at ALTIX share a lot in common. Both require understanding the unique strengths and challenges of each individual and aligning those with the team’s goals. On the field, I help players build confidence and learn from their mistakes. At ALTIX, I take a similar approach, helping leaders develop the skills they need to succeed while fostering a culture of accountability and growth. The ultimate goal in both settings is to help people unlock their potential and achieve something they didn’t think possible.

Leadership is about inspiring others to grow and achieve more than they thought possible. What do you hope to instill in the people you work with—whether they’re young athletes, community members, or business leaders?

I hope to inspire a sense of possibility and joy. Whether it’s a young player scoring their first goal or a leader embracing a new challenge, I want them to see what they’re truly capable of. For me, the most important thing is that they enjoy the journey. When you’re having fun and embracing the process, growth feels natural—and that’s where the magic happens.
